Daniyal Ibrahim
A DevOps Engineer and corporate consultant for the German Public Sector for nearly four years. Before this role I worked for several years as a software developer by profession — and still am one by passion. Beyond traditional automations, CI/CDs, infrastructure scripting and YAMLs, I was involved in several client-facing projects and had the opportunity to work as a Cloud Platform & Support Engineer for the client's Sovereign Google Cloud, where I helped build the cloud platform in a collective team effort and provided technical platform support to 20+ software developer teams. I am AWS Certified and fluent in both German and English.
Experience
Sr. DevOps Engineer — Accenture, Berlin
- Software application development and delivery in an agile project.
- Wrote Infrastructure as Code (ansible playbooks and roles) for automated, consistent and repeatable server deployments across AWS EC2s and on-premise RHEL servers.
- Designed and maintained CI/CD pipelines and shared libraries (jenkins) for continuous integration, deployment and delivery.
- Configured network-level rules to secure connections between a backend, frontend and OIDC IdP (keycloak) containers.
- Engaged in customer-facing tasks: assisted with deployments on on-premise, air-gapped servers, documented user manuals and participated in client meetings.
- Maintained and enhanced a suite of developer tools to improve productivity and collaboration — cutting time and costs, securing credential sharing and enhancing observability for developers and project colleagues by introducing new tools and crafting custom jenkins automations for the reconciliation of application services running in development and testing stages in the AWS Cloud.
- Containerised software application services (podman) as well as all developer tools; migrated legacy developer tools to containers and deployed new ones as containers.
- Took the initiative to analyze AWS cloud billing and successfully reduced AWS EC2 costs by 28%.
- Deployed and maintained a GenAI platform on Azure GPU-based VMs (NVIDIA A100). Designed automation workflows (n8n) to integrate code-completion and chat assistants with developers' IDEs using the Model Context Protocol. Deployed and fine-tuned LLMs (vLLM) with vector storage (Qdrant) and (PostgreSQL) for memory persistence.
- Deployment and fine-tuning of LLMs (vLLM) — a chat model and a pooling model for coding tasks.
- Assisted the sales team in preparing and presenting the slides deck.
- As Ceph Subject Matter Expert, spearheaded the technical aspect of an RFP response for a Swiss-based Telecom Client, providing technical expertise by drafting PoCs regarding the architecture, deployment and data migration strategies of a legacy ceph-based distributed storage solution with > 8 Petabytes of data.
- Delivered solution presentations and technical demonstrations to decision-makers.
DevOps Engineer — Capgemini, Berlin
- Onboarded developer teams, facilitated meetings with external stakeholders and drafted PoCs for managed services, ensuring alignment with client expectations.
- Contributed to a DevSecOps community initiative by designing and implementing a boilerplate pipeline (GitLab CI), integrating security-focused steps for software development and the lifecycles of maven and npm projects.
- In a collective team effort, implemented a multi-tenant cloud platform in Google's Sovereign Cloud with strict project isolation and security controls within the larger cloud organization; provisioned cloud and kubernetes resources with IaC (Terraform and Ansible).
- Set up and maintained shared services including a Ceph-based S3 storage cluster, GitHub Enterprise instance, GitHub Actions self-hosted runners, Nexus Repository Manager, SonarQube, Passbolt, iTop, Kibana, Grafana and many more self-hosted tools.
- Crafted CI/CD pipelines for GitLab CI and GitHub Actions, including the development of reusable GitHub Actions workflows for project-specific use cases.
- Implemented and maintained a Centralized Logging System (Elasticsearch, Kibana, FluentBit, Filebeat).
- Crafted and maintained a Monitoring and Alerting System (cAdvisor, node-exporter, Prometheus and Grafana).
- Implemented DDoS protection (Google Cloud Armor) for load balancer gateways and configured various network settings for NGINX and HAProxy reverse proxies.
- Regular maintenance of cloud resources (Google Kubernetes Engines, Google Compute Engines) and software development and lifecycle tools.
- Built a resilient development platform in the sovereign google cloud; IaC was initially done using ansible, later shifted to GitOps (ArgoCD) for helm charts revisions in kubernetes.
- In a collective team effort, migrated the entire cloud organisation between the legacy Google's Sovereign Cloud and the new Google's Hybrid Cloud.
- Took initiatives to automate redundant cloud platform support tasks using Bash & Python.
- Implemented backup and disaster recovery procedures for the Google Cloud and Kubernetes internal resources.
- Executed end-to-end issue analysis from the client side to container workloads in Kubernetes.
- Incident response and support request handling via ServiceNow in compliance with SLAs, including systematic root cause analysis in complex cloud environments for software applications written in Java, C#, TypeScript and JavaScript. Curated detailed post-mortem reports following incidents and created detailed technical documentation including developer guides and operational manuals for cloud platform usage and support.
Software Product Development — Kieback&Peter GmbH, Berlin
- Crafted a software plugin for an integrated testing framework to test touch displays used in facility automation systems. The plugin interacts over a serial interface to control the touch display and also includes real-time video stream processing to observe the user interface for anomalies.
- Researched computer vision alternatives; enhanced the plugin with advanced object detection and segmentation capabilities in video streams by fine-tuning and training a Deep Neural Network (YOLOv4 CNN) model. Added inference capabilities to the software plugin written in Python.
- Prepared, curated and validated extensive datasets for supervised learning to ensure optimal model performance and integration within the testing framework.
